Lionheart

Valiant even
When the
Veins quit,
When the blood
Drowned you
And machines
Did the breathing,
When your mother
Told you to sleep, now
It’s ok to sleep.
When the
Scalpel sang
Your name,
Coaxed your
Arteries away.
When they
Put you to bed
On a gurney
In the morgue.
When the mortuary
Gave what was
Left of you
To a mouth full
Of fire
And I brought home
A jar full
Of bones.
